In-Person Learning Returns January 4th

Adaptive Pause Information Beginning November 30

November 13, 2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am writing to inform you of our plan to take an adaptive pause and shift to all remote learning for all of our District 96 students beginning on November 30, 2020, with a plan to return to in-person learning on January 4, 2021.

Please know that this decision is not an easy one for us to make. We are very appreciative of the time we have had with our District 96 students since September 2. While we have prioritized in-person learning, we are proud of our remote learning, and we know that it is much better than last Spring.  With this adaptive pause, we are our confident that we will continue to provide high-quality instruction for all of our students in the weeks ahead and always.

Please note that during this adaptive pause, your child's teacher will remain the same.  Your child's schedule will remain the same as well.  The only change is that your child will not be attending in person at our schools from November 30-December 18 (which is the last day of school before winter break).  We plan to return to in-person learning on January 4.

This decision to pause in-person learning is not based on any specific outbreak of COVID within our schools. We continue to be confident with all of our safety protocols. This pause is based on a need to take a proactive and preventative approach to the surging virus metrics, particularly related to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.

While we know that this change in schedules will create challenges for families, we are hopeful that the upcoming week will allow both families and our teachers to prepare for this upcoming pause of in-person learning.

I will continue to communicate with you in the weeks ahead about our plans and anticipated January return to in-person learning.

We are ready to launch surveillance level saliva screening when we return. Please see the information below about the saliva screening process.

We continue to be proud of the great efforts and collaboration between our families and our educators. We are eager to resume in-person learning and we ask for your support so that we can resume safely in January.

Thank you always for your patience, your flexibility, and your understanding. We are truly in this together. We can’t wait for when schools are able to return to a full in-person plan that is safe for each and every student and staff member.

Stay safe, stay healthy and stay connected,

Martha
